It took a Ryan Turner hat-trick, but Barnstaple Town was able to overcome Almondsbury UWE 5-3 in the First Division of the Toolstation Western League.

Josh Phillips and Will Nicholls added a couple of goals for Barny too, as they extended their unbeaten run of matches to 18 in the league. They were made to work pretty hard to get the three points though.

Almondsbury took the lead with just 4 minutes on the clock as a corner from Steven Fitzpatrick was fumbled into the goal by Ryan Draper.

It was a jittery start for Barnstaple, but within 15 minutes they were able to level the scores with a header followed by a tap-in for Turner.

The game changed gear half an hour in when Phillips scored again with a header to make it 2-1. Barnstaple capitalized on Almondsbury’s vulnerability in the next 7 minutes to make it 3-1 as Nicholls scored from another header.

Town scored one more and scored another straight from the kick-off when Jack Jenkins threaded through the Almondsbury defense to make it 4-1.

Before the half-finished, Daniel Lane scored from a volley to make it 4-2, and give Almondsbury hope for the 2nd half.

These hopes were dashed in the 47th minute, when Turner scored once more, completed his hat-trick and took the score to 5-2.

Barnstaple were able to comfortably see off the remainder of the match with ease, and quashed any counter attacks Almondsbury tried. The sting was taken out of their tail a little bit though when Toby Waterman managed to pull one back for the visitors and bring the score to 5-3 while getting rid of the comfortable 3-goal cushion Barnstaple had.

It was an exciting match, to say the least, like any 8 goal thriller. Hopefully, you can catch a replay at some point in the future.
